For the average person in the street, the idea of judo may evoke images of Eastern mysticism and the strange sound foreign words. Certainly, judo, which means "the gentle way", has its roots in the Far East, from its origins to the ancient Japanese art of hand melee combat known as Ju-Jitsu. But the most popular sports as we know it today is relatively modern, only invented 120 years ago by a strong academic Dr. Jigoro Kano.
